Postseason mlb schedule6/12/2023 ![]() Prior to the first league schedule in 1877, member clubs scheduled their own matches by mutual arrangement, including championship games necessarily with member clubs, other games with members, and games with non-member clubs. During this era, there were a number of different leagues that would be deemed Major League. This account gives the length of the major league "championship season" schedule by league and year. ![]() In contrast, a 2008 AL Central division game between Detroit and the Chicago White Sox needed to be made up following the last day of the regular season because it played a part in the division race involving the White Sox and the Minnesota Twins. Because the teams were unable to reschedule a make-up date before the end of the season on October 2, and it did not affect the divisional race, the game was not rescheduled. For example, in 2016, the September 29 game between the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers was originally cancelled due to rain. However, if two teams are scheduled to meet for the final time in the last two weeks of the season, and the game is cancelled, it may not be rescheduled if there is no impact on the divisional or wild card races. Note that rainouts and other cancellations are often rescheduled ad hoc during the season, sometimes as doubleheaders. Under this schedule, divisional games consist of one four-game and three three-game series (one each home and away), intraleague games consist of two three-game series, and the interleague games consist of two two-game series against the geographic rival, and a single three-game series against the other interleague opponents (home team alternates every year). Beginning in 2023, teams play a balanced schedule as follows: they play their 13 games against their four divisional opponents (52 games), six or seven games against the other ten teams in their own league (64 games), four games against one "geographic rival" from the other league and three games against the other 14 teams from the other league for 46 total interleague games. Depending on the length of the series, mid-week series games are usually scheduled between Monday and Thursday, while weekend games are scheduled between Thursday and Monday. Teams play one mid-week series and one weekend series per week. Due to travel concerns and the sheer number of games, pairs of teams are never scheduled to play single games against each other (except in the instance of making up a postponed game, or more rarely, a one-game playoff to determine a postseason berth) instead they play games on several consecutive days in the same ballpark. ![]() The regular season is constructed from series. It is possible for a given team to play a maximum of 22 games in the postseason in a given year, provided the team is a wild card and advances to each of the Division Series, Championship Series, and World Series with each series going the distance (3 games in the Wild Card series, 5 games in the Division Series, 7 games each in the League Championship Series/World Series). ![]() ![]() One or more International Opener games may be scheduled outside the United States or Canada before the official Opening Day. The season begins with the official Opening Day, and, as of 2018, runs 26½ weeks through the last Sunday of September or first Sunday of October. The regular season runs from late March/early April to late September/early October, followed by the postseason which can run to early November. The Major League Baseball (MLB) season schedule generally consists of 162 games for each of the 30 teams in the American League (AL) and National League (NL), played over approximately six months – a total of 2,430 games, plus the postseason. ![]()

Rad the movie6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() If you've lived on Eastern Shore as long as I have, you know that every so often, Hollywood comes calling. A complete list of participating theaters is available through the Fathom Events website. Tickets for the event are now on sale through or at participating theater box offices. The forthcoming documentary will give audiences an inside look into the making of the film that helped catapult the extreme popularity of the 1980s BMX fad and feature never-before-seen interviews with the cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage. The iconic 80s flick was directed by Hal Needham.Īs part of the “Rad 35th Anniversary” event, fans will see, for the first time, a trailer for the forthcoming “A Rad Documentary – Inside the BMX Movie That Changed Everything”. It’s grown a huge following for its fun-loving attitude, terrific score, and memorable bike tricks - and crowds of people came out to celebrate its 35th anniversary re-release at Fantastic Fest 2021 with the cast and crew. And Cru and his buds are a hoot to hang out with.Įven though Rad bombed in theaters back in ’86, it’s become the very definition of a cult classic in the years since. It makes us fall in love with BMX from all of the races and stunts that are pulled off here (done by 25 or so actual BMX pros). It gets teens to fall in love with each other by performing a blend of bike tricks and dancing. It’s sincere without a trace of irony or meanness. It has something called “ass-sliding” that’s just as weird as it sounds. It features kids playing hide-and-seek with motorcycle cops. It’s got an upbeat attitude that vibes from start to finish. There’s so little in Rad that doesn’t aim to entertain you. But don’t lose heart, gentle reader, for there is nothing that a well-scored montage, the love of Lori Loughlin (who plays Cru’s love interest Christian), believing in oneself, and the undying adoration of an entire village can’t overcome. Yes, this is one of those sports movies where an entire town is absolutely enraptured by a single random athletic enterprise.Ĭru’s got some obstacles to overcome before he can even race, including his cranky mom (looking out for his college future, how dare she!), the devilish president of the racing association, a group of arrogant BMX professionals, and a lack of necessary funds. Bill Allen is Cru Jones, a teenage boy who’s being pushed by his mother to take the SATs but really wants to follow his heart to perform in BMX races - one race in particular, the “Hell Track,” which is coming to his very town. “Break the Ice,” “Riverside,” “Thunder in Your Heart,” and “Send Me an Angel” are just the tip of the iceberg, under which is a layer of synth and sax like you wouldn’t believe.īut there’s a movie here, and we must revel in it. There’s just nine tracks on it, and not a loser in the bunch. If you had to own only five movie soundtracks from this era, Rad would be an incredibly solid choice. The first thing we must discuss about Rad - other than the spot-on title - is the amazing soundtrack. ![]() And Rad sat on top of the pile of Huffy bikes in a category all its own. Bikes weren’t just a way to get around before driver’s licenses they were statements of rebellion and awesomeness, even if they kind of look like something little kids would ride today instead of teenagers. So many kid-centric movies from the time, including E.T., Karate Kid, and Goonies, featured several scenes of our heroes bikin’ it around town and across accommodating wilderness. Let’s ride on!īMX is certainly still around today, but it seemed to really peak in the 1980s. There are like three metaphors in this paragraph so far, and I’m not going back to fix any of them. It’s high time I enter the cult of Rad and drink deep of the cup of BMX, so that my education may be complete. Justin’s review: For a good while now, Rad has been terribly absent from my ’80s movie bingo sheet - to my great shame. “It’s going to take a radical miracle to beat this guy.” ![]() Tabula rasa definition6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() The has shifted and grown over the course of centuries. ![]() Talk therapy, like all other ideas in psychology, have evolved since they were first introduced. Locke used this theory to argue that while all humans belong to the same society, each individual has “natural” rights. His essays, including “An Essay Concerning Human Understanding” and “Essays on the Law of Nature” described the mind as a “white paper.” Only experience would shape what is written on the white paper, including information about mortality. He is often credited as the founder of British empiricism, as well as the “Father of Liberalism.” Ibn Tufail, Aristotle, and other earlier psychologists had a serious influence on 17th century philosopher John Locke. This upbringing shaped many of his decisions and behaviors, including the commitment to not eating meat. The child learned skills only through the animals on the island around him. He described a feral child’s upbringing on an isolated island. Ibn Tufail, for example, was an Andalusian– Islamic philosopher who wrote about tabula rasa in the 12th century. The next psychologists to discuss this subject didn’t do so until the 11th and 12th centuries. Sure, what we take in through the senses becomes the first characters or words written on our “blank slate.” But our ability to process what we take in is something we have before we are born. This means that the idea of tabula rasa has been around for over 2,000 years! But the Ancient Greeks didn’t believe that we learn everything after we are born. Early WritingsĪs I just mentioned, Aristotle wrote about the idea back in Ancient Greece. ![]() Let’s look at a history of tabula rasa and the main voices who have supported the theory. Since then, the idea has been refined and shaped by various psychologists. Psychologists often credit Aristotle as the first philosopher or psychologist to write about this idea. The tabula rasa argues that we are more impressionable and able to be molded by the way our parents raise us, how we grow up, and what we are taught. This nativist idea states that no matter what happens to us after birth, some of our decisions or traits are pre-determined. This is in contrast to the idea that we are born with certain traits based on our genes. Our decisions and behaviors stem solely from our experiences. Through all of these experiences, we form thoughts and personality traits. This “slate” becomes filled with each new experience. Tabula rasa is a Latin term and theory that describes our mind as a “blank slate” at birth. The use of this expression was so useful and popular that it has survived the passing of time, the phrase is one of our 'Latin legacies'.Where Tabula Rasa Fits Into Psychology Today What Does Tabula Rasa Mean in Psychology? The Latin language spread throughout the western world and was taught in schools and spoken by the greatest scholars. "We must make a tabula rasa of the whole situation." This phrase or expression "Tabula rasa" meaning "Blank or clean slate" is also applied in situations in which there is a need, or an opportunity, to start again from the beginning. ![]() It was used by John Locke in his essay Essay Concerning Human Understanding who adopted it in his critique of the theory of innate ideas and his views on the featureless, unformed mind. The concept of "Tabula rasa" (a clean slate) has been used by many famous philosophers including Aristotle, Plato and Albertus Magnus. The term 'rasa' means to erase or scrape. The tablet was made of wood and covered with a layer of wax that could be scraped leaving a smoothed tablet or a blank slate. The origin of the expression "Tabula rasa"was coined by the philosopher John Locke and dates back to era of the ancient Romans who used a reusable wax tablet called a 'tabula' to make notes. ![]() The bigger picture clean lyrics6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() Another statement that is in Rose's article states ".their roles as storytellers ensured that rapping would become the central expression in Hip Hop culture."(20) This song is the perfect example to show that she is still correct about today's Hip Hop. This song is heavily related to some parts of "Rap Music." She spoke on how the most used version of rap was violent and aggressive, but it was also very political. Everything that was said in the video had meaning, and so did the angles of the camera, posters, and the way it was filmed. Not only does he touch on current issues, but he inserts himself into what is going on. The music video to the song “The Bigger Picture” is very meaningful and has a purpose. There was a young man holding a sign in front of a crowd in the upper right hand of the screen that said "Breonna Taylor. That murder and and police brutality is all they know and they are going to keep fighting until their voices are heard. After that the screen changes and shows signs and posters that say they want change. He wants them to have a choice and have a good life. It shows that he wants the younger kids to grow up different than he had to. Singing about killing and drugs because he had to, and the camera focuses on the young girl in the lower left quadrant of the screen. In the following clip he speaks about how he knows that he has done wrong. This is his way of telling everyone to stand up and show out. He wants them to be the focal point in this part. In the last minute of the song, he begins to show people of different ages and genders standing up and protesting. They will only become stronger and fight harder until they get what they deserve. In this same area Lil Baby says, “You can’t fight fire with fire I know, but at least we can turn up the flames some.” I believe this symbolizes that they are going to fight for what they believe in and won’t stop coming back. I assume that was Lil Baby’s way of really showing who is in the wrong. The video shows the police officers throwing tear gas into a group of protesters who were being peaceful. ![]() The camera is very frequently moving between clips of people holding up a variation of signs that have something to do with defunding the police. Towards the second half of the video, the camera and footage begins to focus more on the police instead of the protestors. Similarly, in “Rap Music” by Tricia Rose, she states that, “The most frequent style of rap was a variation on the toast to a boastful, bragging form of oral storytelling sometimes explicitly political and often aggressive, violent, and sexist.” (21) This relates to whenever Lil Baby is talking about police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement considering it has become an extremely popular subject within politics. Within the next few seconds, there is a part of a clip where a young woman is holding up a sign that states, “I am afraid to have kids because you are killing my brothers and sisters.” In this case, “you” directed toward the police force. The camera then goes back to a clip of Lil Baby standing in solidarity during a Black Lives Matter protest in Atlanta, Georgia. This may also be a way to get people who don’t watch the news to see what is going on. ![]() I believe that this is because Lil Baby wants the viewers to see what is really happening. The camera begins to slowly move towards the side until the news footage is shown. ![]() The cameras were angled directly towards them because they are the focal point in this clip. In the very beginning of the video, it starts off with footage of a peaceful protest. Both the video and the lyrics give you information about what is going on in today’s world. In many ways, this relates to Tricia Rose’s, “Rap Music”. It is about racism, police brutality, and it also has a political background. “The Bigger Picture” is a video about the current issues in today’s society. The video I chose for my visual analysis is “The Bigger Picture” by Lil Baby. ![]() If both signs are negative, the system is competitive. The timing for solving the equations with one set of initial conditions is included as a baseline number to see how the methods scale. If both signs are positive, the system is cooperative. ![]() Time each of the previous methods using timeit. The block diagonal form of the Jacobian arises from the input reshaping performed in the rewritten ODE function. The change in time steps generally does not affect the accuracy of the solution, but rather which times the solution is evaluated at.įor stiff ODE solvers ( ode15s, ode23s, ode23t, ode23tb) that automatically evaluate the numerical Jacobian of the system, specifying the block diagonal sparsity pattern of the Jacobian using the JPattern option of odeset can improve the efficiency of the calculation. The difference arises because the ODE solver applies norm checks to the entire system to calculate the size of the time steps, so the time-stepping behavior of the solution is slightly different. ![]() The calculated solutions can be slightly different than those computed from a single initial input. To implement this method for the Lotka-Volterra system, start by finding the number of initial conditions n, and then form a matrix of initial conditions. The result is that you can solve the system for all of the initial conditions in one simulation. If you follow these steps, then the ODE solver can solve the system of equations using a vector for the solution components, while the ODE function reshapes the vector into a matrix and solves each solution component for all of the initial conditions. įinally, the ODE function must reshape its output back into a vector so that the ODE solver receives a vector back from each function call. The ODE function must solve the equations in a vectorized format, so that the expression accepts vectors for the solution components. Each row of the matrix then contains all of the initial conditions for each variable. The ODE function must reshape the vector into a matrix with size s-by-n. Inside the ODE function, the solver passes the solution components p as a column vector. The ODE function must accept an extra input parameter for n, the number of initial conditions. Each column in the matrix then represents one complete set of initial conditions for the system. The size of the matrix is s-by- n, where s is the number of solution components and n is the number of initial conditions being solved for. ![]() Provide all of the initial conditions to ode45 as a matrix. Plot a phase plot with the results from all iterations. Create a vector of population sizes for y0, and then loop over the values to solve the equations for each set of initial conditions. ![]() This technique uses the same ODE function as the single initial condition technique, but the for-loop automates the solution process.įor example, you can hold the initial population size for x constant at 50, and use the for-loop to vary the initial population size for y between 10 and 400. The simplest way to solve a system of ODEs for multiple initial conditions is with a for-loop. Method 1: Compute Multiple Initial Conditions with for-loop The next two sections describe techniques to solve for many different initial conditions. However, this method only solves the equations for one initial condition at a time. To solve the equations for different initial population sizes, change the values in p0 and rerun the simulation. The resulting plots show the solution for the given initial population sizes. ![]() ![]() ![]() She died in February 1984 age 86, in her adopted home of Manhattan.īethan Clark is a British woman who has lived in Hong Kong since 1999.
